White Oak: From Tree to Basket

Join Micah Wiles, farmer and basket maker to learn about working with White oak — the preferred traditional basket-making material in our region. In this class, you will learn how to select and harvest a white oak tree and turn the log into ready-to-use weaving materials, using various hand tools. You will also weave a simple basket with your hard-earned materials. The focus of this class is processing the material; you may not finish your basket in class but will leave with the knowledge to finish on your own if needed. This process is physically demanding and will require good hand strength and determination!

The half day on friday will be about going into the woods to select and harvest a tree. We encourage you to join on this day, but it is optional. Micah can still provide details about how to select a suitable tree if you choose not to come on friday, but you will miss the experience.

This is a very special small class. Only 6 spots available total.

**This class is a Bring your Own Lunch class. We will provide coffee and tea during the lunch break.
